ROCK COMMUNITY CHURCH

Christmas

2016

ROCK SALT COLLECTIVE ADVENT CALENDAR

One of the groups we have at the Rock is a community of artists, creatives and people who like to think outside the box.  This group is called Rock Salt Collective.  The group have been reflecting on the christmas story over the past few months.  we've created and curated artworks and reflections for each day of advent. Some are fun, others provocative, while others are a bit of both.  The above online advent calendar works like a normal one does except instead of a picture of a little drummer boy or a lump of non distinct chocolate you'll get a thought provoking piece of art to lead you into the Christmas story.

One thing we like to do each Christmas is think outwardly.  This year we're challenging the congregation to take an item from their cupboards each day and to bring them to our Christmas service on December 18th and we can pass these on to Food for Thought to be a blessing to those who are struggling in our community.

It's kinda like an advent calendar but in reverse. Instead of getting something each day you get to give something.

Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

WHAT'S ON THIS CHRISTMAS AT THE ROCK

CHRISTMAS SERVICE: THE WELL GOOD STORY OF CHRISTMAS

Join us for a morning of celebrating the well good news that is the birth of Jesus.  We'll be singing, we'll be telling stories and we'll be...well we can't tell you all the surprises just yet. Come along for a fun all age time together.

10:30AM - 18TH DEC - DUMBARTON ACADEMY

ADVENT SERVICE NO.3: THE ANGELS VISIT

We'll be exploring more of the christmas story this morning.  This week we'll be looking at the stories of the angels who appeared to tell of God's plans.  We'll have an exciting mix of singing, story telling, and plenty of yummy coffee and home baking!

10:30AM - 11TH DEC - DUMBARTON ACADEMY

DCT HIGH STREET SERVICE

We'll be joining with our friends from across the local churches to celebrate the birth of Jesus.  Carols, readings and warm mince pies.

DCT CAROLS BY CANDLELIGHT

We'll be joining with the other local churches to celebrate the story of a God of justice coming to be with us in the person of Jesus.  We'll be singing some well known carols in the beautiful surroundings of a candlelit St Augs.  We'll also be reflecting on the good news of a God who cares about humanity and reflecting on how we can support the work of Embrace the Middle East and their survival kits for Syrian refugees.

7:30PM - 4TH DEC - ST AUGUSTINES EPISCOPAL CHURCH

ADVENT SERVICE NO. 2: THE FAMILY TREE

It might seem obvious but Jesus had a family tree.  Matthew starts his story of Jesus with a long list of people that Jesus has in his genealogy.  It reads like the ultimate episode of Who Do You Think You Are.  We'll be looking at some of these characters from Wise Kings to megalomaniacs, from murders to poets, from change makers to ladies of the night, and we'll be asking the question what does this tell us about this little baby lying in the manger.

10:30AM - 4TH DEC - DUMBARTON ACADEMY

ADVENT SERVICE NO. 1: THE PROPHECIES

It seems as though it was always God's plan to send His son to earth.  We'll be looking at some of the ancient prophecies that spoke of the coming Christ.  We'll be looking at these words written down centuries before Jesus which tell of his coming.

10:30AM - 27TH NOV - DUMBARTON ACADEMY
